Banks in Nigeria are financial institutions licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria to carry out financial obligations such as accepting deposits, granting loans, advances, cash, credit, overdraft and discounting of bills. They also into issuing letter of credit, undertaking safe custody of valuables, providing consumer finance, educational loans, etc. Many in the below lists of banks in Nigeria also carry out such obligations and thereby were accredited by the central bank of Nigeria.

Before going into more in-dept on the list of banks in Nigeria, let us define bank.

What is a Bank?

A bank is a financial institution licensed to receive deposits and make loans. Banks may also provide financial services such as wealth management, currency exchange, and safe deposit boxes. There are several different kinds of banks including retail banks, commercial or corporate banks, and investment banks. In most countries, banks are regulated by the national government or central bank

In a simple terms, a bank is a secured place where valuables are stored. It is a place where people keep money, gold and other valuable item; it is also a place where people go to seek for loan and/or any form of payment advance when needed.
